TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — Not everyone is able to have a goodnight’s sleep in a comfy bed. For some families, sleeping on the floor is all they may have.

Topeka’s Slumberland Furniture is helping kids and families get tucked into a bed of their own, just in time for the holidays.
Slumberland Furniture donated 23 beds to Topeka area families as part of their annual “Making Homes for the Holidays” program.
“Sometimes we take it for granted and there are families that are in need of that,” manager of Slumberland, Tim Jackson said. “Some of the families have had fires recently here in town, they work with salvation army who contacted us about providing some mattresses for the children and for the families.”
This year Topeka’s Salvation Army and USD 501’s Parents as Teachers Program partnered with the store to spread the holiday cheer.
“Some cases there have been different issues that have created a situation where people were in need and we’ve been able to provide mattresses for them,” Jackson explained.
Slumberland has donated brand new mattresses to deserving families in the Topeka area for 28 years.
“It’s a good feeling to be able to help a family out that has gotten to where something a little larger themselves has happened and it helps them get back on to their feet,” Jackson said.
He says sleeping in a real bed can make a real impact on kids, “It’s going to affect their attention in school, it can affect their grades and the total quality of life,” Jackson explained. “It’s great to get them into a bed that they are comfortable with, safe, and get a good night sleep and then be refreshed for school the next day. I’m sure it means the world to them to be able to get that.”
Next year, Slumberland plans to partner with more local charities to improve children’s lives with healthy sleep.
