Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation Department recommends making 2020 a year of mind, body and spirit self-care.

How, you ask? They offer several classes aimed at achieving peace and harmony including a new class called Restorative Yoga. A Restorative Yoga practice will assist you in gaining wellness and calm. Through slow, intentional stretches your mind, body and spirit can deeply relax and open. Props are used as opposed to muscles so your body is kindly supported. Experience the transformative effects of Restorative Yoga in this four-week class. For ages 18+, 7-8 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 8-29, Adult Community Center (ACC), $33.

Other options include:

One Day Meditation Workshop — This one-day silent retreat offers you a perfect setting to break away from daily routines and reinvigorate or deepen your meditation practice. The day includes guided meditation, plus a review of how to apply meditation methods and mindfulness to daily living activities and an opportunity for one-on-one guidance with the instructor. The day closes with an inspirational talk. Bring your own lunch and snacks. For ages 16+, 8:30 a.m-6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, Christ Church Parish (CCP), $39.

Tai Chi: Very Beginning — A slow paced, low impact, gentle movement art-based on the Yang family 24-movement short form. Practice meditative mind-body exercise with slow and rhythmical movements to increase balance, flexibility, muscle strength and enhance well-being. For beginning students, this class introduces tai chi concepts and forms 1 through 12. For ages 18+, 2:15-3:15 p.m., Mondays/Thursdays, Jan. 9-Feb. 27, ACC, $71.

New art classes

Cartooning for Kids — Improve your drawing skills as you create your own storyboard, characters and finished comic strip. Create characters in action along with various background settings. For ages 8-12, 4-5 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 14-Feb. 18, CCP, $76.

Drawing for Teens — Sharpen your drawing skills while drawing from observation and photographs. Learn techniques for drawing people, focusing on proportion and shading, as well as explore perspective drawing. Teen Lounge members may attend this class for free. For ages 11-17, 5-6 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 14-Feb. 18, CCP, $76.

Drawing for Adults — This class is for all levels of experience. Draw from observation and images while focusing online, shading, proportion, composition and texture. Explore drawing the human form and explore perspective drawing. For ages 18+, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 14-Feb. 18, CCP, $136.

New French I & II classes

French I — Focus on alphabet, pronunciation rules, subject pronouns, simple verbs (ETRE”, “AVOIR, “ER”, verbs), basic agreement rules. For students with no previous experience with the French language. For ages 18+, 9:30-10:45 a.m., Mondays, Jan. 27-March 9, CCP, $70.

French II — Review of grammar and vocabulary through guided thematic weekly conversations. For students with elementary experience in French (1-2 semesters of college French). For ages 18+, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 27-March 9, CCP, $70.
