Pasadena’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is launching an Outdoor Recreation Program that includes various activities designed to encourage both kids and adults to get outside and move.
The eight-week program, which starts Monday, Sept. 28, is open to all residents of Pasadena and Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) students.
Each fitness program costs anywhere from $12.50 to $65, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, the department said.
A listing of the outdoor activities on the department’s website includes Fitness 360, for ages 18 and up, as well as a non-contact boxing program for youth 8 to 17 years old, and adults from 18 and up.
“This fast-paced, full-body workout will challenge individuals of all fitness levels,” states a description of the Fitness 360 program on the website. “If you’re looking to burn calories, tone your body and improve your overall fitness, then FIT360 is the class for you,”
Fitness 360 will be held every from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday from Sept. 30 to Nov. 18 at Villa-Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St. This is open for ages 18. There is a registration fee of $45.
The coed non-contact boxing program, featuring Olympic-style boxing geared toward health and fitness, is a fun structured program led by experienced instructors. This will focus on improving overall fitness and mental and physical health. Boxing helps in the development of social skills, self-confidence, character, and sportsmanship, according to the city announcement.
There’s a program for youth ages 8 to 17, with Youth Beginner and Youth Advanced categories. There is a $12.50 registration fee. Adults 18 and up, Beginner and Advanced, can register for $32.50. The boxing program will be held at Villa-Parke Community Center from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Fridays up to Nov. 20.
Kids from second and third grades (the “Mighty Mites” category) can join a flag football training camp, which also has divisions for third and fourth graders (Division C), fifth and sixth graders (Division B), and seventh and eighth-graders (Division A). Training will be conducted by city staff and participants will work on building offensive and defensive flag football skills, as well as general training and conditioning.
This camp is on Mondays and Thursdays (for Divisions A and B) and Tuesday and Thursday (for Mighty Mites and Division C) up to Nov. 19. For Divisions A and B, the camp will be held at Robinson Park. For Mighty Mites and Division C, it will be at Villa-Parke Turf Field. Registration is open by division.
The Villa-Parke Youth Soccer League is offering safe, fun, and well-organized skill-building and fundamental sessions through the Youth Soccer Fundamentals and Skill Building program. Trained and experienced staff will take the field to help children develop their soccer skills, while also developing overall fitness and conditioning.
This program is open to ages 6 to 12, with Mascots, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Divisions, and will be conducted at Villa-Parke Turf Field Wednesdays and Fridays, at different times according to Division, up to Nov. 25.
