Two Pontiac nonprofits are teaming up to launch a free parenting workshop that will run year-round.
E-Community Outreach Services and the Center for Success are looking to bring 10 to 15 parents into the program each week. Both nonprofits focus on community empowerment, literacy and mentoring and more. It’s planned to be hosted at the Center for Success, 245 Rundell St. in Pontiac, or online depending on the virus caseload in the area.
Families will be assessed upon entering the program and could be assigned a case manager, a licensed counselor, a career readiness expert or health specialist, depending on the need. The 10-week program will teach parents about literacy, advocacy for their children in education, self care and career development.
“This is a program for the whole household. We want to provide specific resources to help parents focus more on their kids and their education,” Eisha Branner, founder and CEO of E-Community Outreach Services, said. “A lot of the parents I talk to are frustrated right now. This is a workshop that will help them navigate through this online learning world.”
The workshops will last two hours, taking place two days out of the week for 10 weeks. Cohorts will be offered to increase social distancing, with one group meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays and the other on Tuesdays and Thursday. Fridays will offer virtual workshops and on Saturdays the nonprofits plan to host optional fitness events.
