Crunch Fitness is moving ahead with plans for a second location in the Birmingham area, only months after opening one in Hoover.
The fitness chain is leasing a 48,500-square-foot former Food Land location in Alabaster at the intersection of Alabama 119 and U.S. 31. The company plans to pump more than $3 million into the location. No word yet on when the location may open.
Crunch Fitness plans to open five to six locations in the Birmingham area.
Analysts say that the COVID-19 pandemic has stressed the fitness sector of the economy, as with other sectors, but has a chance to rebound going forward as the lockdown made many Americans turn to recreation and exercise.

Chase Commercial Specialists also represented Crunch franchise owners, David Seymour and Wayne Borries, on their first Birmingham location in Hoover. Crunch Fitness has group fitness classes, Kids Crunch, HIITZone (High Intensity Interval) training, tanning, relax and recovery, and other features.
